Back in February of 2009, I ran across a most congenial man, Gaylon Wilson. He was accompanied by his mules, Mattie and Ruth who were pulling his wagon.
Since this opportunity doesn’t fall in your lap every day, I asked if he would mind holding
still for a few pictures and a friendly interrogation, the results of which would eventually be available for all on the world wide web. He allowed as how this would be just fine. He was a well-spring of mule and wagon information having had a working relationship with both from his childhood. That was a considerable time, since he was 73 at the time.
This week, I am sending you back to that original post where you can see and read the results of our visit. Still further information is available on the Photo of the Week page at Corndancer dot-com.

When I was in elementary school, a very elderly man on the farm next door would hitch his mules up and drive to town and back each Saturday. Dad offered to give him a lift, but , no. he liked to roll along with his mules…peaceful like. He was a really cool guy.
“He was a really cool guy.” Sounds like the mantra of the muleskinner.” Thanks for looking,
Joe
